I played the game and I got MIDDLE CLASS as the result. Since I think I'm in middle class, I guess it's quite correct but I don't really see how that shows I'm in the middle class because often I don't find anything I want to put in my house. I think it would be more accurate if they use real objects instead of drawings. I find all the objects too ugly and they don't really fit together to be in the same house. But what i realized that may be true is that we often think some thing is supposed to be high class but they are not (like puddle dog or fish tank), but people in high class actually wouldn't purchase them. Class is determined by how we grow up; it's difficult, if not impossible, to change class.
Sharon ! A girl so into style as yourself would definitely notice the fact that the objects didn't really "go together" but I think you're right, that is an excellent critique of their methodology.
Good work
After playing the game, I found out that I am a mixture of all the classes. As they called it, I am a trailer park, nouveau riche, middle class person. I completely agree with Sharon's point on not liking any of the furniture's. So I too don't see how this is an accurate description of me. But at the same time, I wasn't very surprised at the results because I am the kind of guy that likes "trailer parks" things to the "nouveau riche" possessions.
I played the three games and got strange results. The first game, "Chintz or Shag", was quite fun and interesting, yet like Sharon and Brandon said, you are limited in your choices, and the game would be a lot more explanatory if there were a lot of choices. To add, the results don't really give you an explanation of why the object represents that class, thus making us wonder if the results accurately describe us. For example, how does a Hardwood floor fit in the middle middle class? And not all electronics are for the Nouveau riche; some of those in the middle class use iPods and laptops.
The second game, "Identify This," results in one conversing equally well with a duke or ditch digger. The game itself was interestingly hard, trying to associate the right object to someone. Like the first game, I fail to see how a duke/ditch digger can get all these mistakes in terms of classes, and how that can be a representation of me.
The third game, "Name that Class," results in me being old money. The result explanation is quite true. Whatever I buy reflects on my attitude, so objects I acquired like iPods, laptops, clothes and food for the poor, etc. have shaped me into a cool and caring person.
Tania:
i played the game where you put furniture in the room. Due to the lack of good furniture i had a hard time decorating the room. according to the game i am nouveau riche. Which kind of suprised me i thaught that i would get a result of a mixture of classes. it was an interesting game i cant say that i agreed to the conclusion but it a fun game. learning about class systems made me realize that people do judge us for where we grow up. i agree with sharon it is difficult change into a class.
so i did the furniture game and it said i was blue collar. And i agree that some of the furniture choices were foolish.
I played the house game and i got a mixture of middle class, workig class, and upper class. I would say they got it right...but i was surprised of how many things i picked were "high" class because i thought they were middle class. The choices for furitture weren't the greatest; overall, it wasn't really a good game; it was pretty stereotypical, i thought.
The first game said that I was too mixed for them to clasify me. I think this speaks for today's society, classes have began to blur, and you can no longer place people in classes so easily.
The second game used a lot of poroquial terms, making it easy to make mistakes.
I really don't see why furniture is such a big topic in this blog...
I dont really see how Rajiv would get placed into blue collar considering he wears shirts everyday...
These games are bogus
and they really arent even games, more like activities because you can't really win...
This game was pretty interesting. As I was playing through I had a mixture of picking a different kind of object from different kind classes. The result showed up as I was very eclectic that it was hard to judge what class I belong in. In the end after playing all three games, my class was blue collar which was pretty surprising for me. I thought I was middle class, but then I thought of my wild creativity that I always think so I guess it's suitable for me. Well one thing I learned is having a poster of bikini wearing girl with a beer can she's holding on to, it's not how middle class would think now would they.
Like Brandon and Sharon said before I also do agree that I didn't like the furniture's choice or some of the items that they wanted me to choose. If I actually had my own choice of picking what kind furniture I would like to have, them it could be possible that my class could of been different.
P.S. I care less of what class I'm in or what other people think I'm in. If I can get along with the people I want to talk to or to hang out I'm perfectly fine with that. I think judging one by their classes is more inappropriate or very offensive to that person. People should look more into "who" they are, not "what" they are.
Peace.
I played all of the games. I chose a variety of things on the first game. Some of the things I like to put in my living room wasn't available in the game so I chose what I liked making me part of the middle class of society. I like the piano, high definition tv, and the labrador which puts me in the middle class because the high definition tv is expensive stuff.
Guys ! Great comments. Your analysis is great, looking forward to reading more stuff from you guys on here.
